Wisdom
Last semester I did a course on "Fourier Techniques and Signal Analysis" taught by Dr. Erik I Verriest. The following is from the his introductory notes for the course:
".........The objective of this course is therefore to strive for a creative knowledge of the necessary tools. Creative knowledge transcends rote memorization and the ability of solving “plug-and-chug” problems. It involves also a clear and full understanding of the phenomena and the techniques. However, one should also try to push further to a third stage, and excite the creativity of the student. This means that a more holographic knowledge of the material will be aimed for, not only in solving problems, but occasionally also in detecting and identifying potential problems. It requires the ability to synthesize. The next stage of knowledge, wisdom, comes with experience and age in most cases."
